Joy… to the world

April 4, 2008 | 8 Comments

joy.jpgI’m totally pulling a Perez Hilton here, but this is a plug for a completely underground and unsigned music artist named Joy. I’ll let her song - “Automatic” - speak for itself, but not before sharing this story:

I recently played “Automatic” for my wife, who was sitting in the other room. I asked her what she thought of it without mentioning the artist. She loved it and said “isn’t that the new Madonna that’s produced by Timbaland?”

“No, it’s Joy,” I said. “The Joy I went to high school with.” Joy and I were friends in high school and shared similar tastes in music. Last week, I randomly stumbled upon her myspace page and listened to her songs. The first song I heard was “Automatic” and thought it was brilliant. Great beat, great lyrics, love the way she says “droP,” and totally in line with today’s hottest electro sounds from Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Timberland, Madonna, etc. Joy’s song could easily be a single on the radio.

So, I immediately emailed Joy and asked if I could share it with my blog readers. According to Joy, she is finishing up production and getting ready to shop for a deal. If I were a record executive, I’d sign Joy in an instant - great voice, marketable personality and comes with an amazingly talented husband, who produces and co-writes her music. Check out Joy here and here, but click the play button below and let me know what you think of “Automatic.”

Power Profile: Todd And

February 22, 2008 | 11 Comments

worldoftodd.jpg

To kick start my next 500 posts, I thought I’d profile myself, author of Todd And, which sits at No. 115 on the Power 150 (02/21/08). It’s been almost a year and a half since I started blogging and I don’t talk about myself much on this thing, so why not?

The photo was taken at 5 p.m. this afternoon while my colleague demonstrated his Ricoh Caplio GX100 camera. As you can see, I’m listening intently… and now I want one. Here is my Power Profile:

What blogs do you read most often?
I imported the OPML file of the Power 150 into my Google Reader so I just read the entire river of news from all 575 marketing and media bloggers. When I’m not browsing them all, I tend to read Matt Dickman, David Airey, Kami Huyse, Neatorama, Boing Boing, Techcrunch and the rest of my blog roll.

Monday Marketing: Thinking in Solutions

February 17, 2008 | 3 Comments

Source: Marketing Facts

The song is a new favorite called Paper Aeroplane by Angus & Julia Stone.

The commercial belongs to Maandag.nl. I don’t speak Dutch, but I think they’re referring to reinventing or reclaiming Monday as something new. Instead of dreading Monday as a day of obstacles and headaches, look at Monday as a day of opportunities and clever solutions.

Not sure what service or product Maandag is selling other than a good message, but here is the full music video.

As marketing and PR professionals, we are constantly evaluated by the creative solutions we execute. So maybe Monday is the best day of the week for marketing executives who think in clever solutions. Enjoy your Monday.

My Christmas iMix

December 22, 2007 | 3 Comments

xmasimix.jpgYep, we’re hosting the big family Christmas bash this year. Bought the ham and wine today. Got a nice selection of German and French wines as well as some great Austrian (Stiegl) and Czech (Czechvar) beers. I’m in the midst of planning the family games. The kids’ game is already taken care of - The Rudolph Poop Drop - which is a game that requires precise hand-eye coordination as my nieces and nephews will be dropping poop-like Play-Doh from the second floor banister. The adult game is video trivia with great use of classic YouTube clips - some of which I’ve been posting in the “Video of the Moment” section. And, finally, I just compiled the all-important iTunes iMix of some Christmas classics and contemporaries. Here’s the link (you must have iTunes installed) in case you need some Xmas songs to add to your playlist. And here is the featured song of 2007 - Dominick the Donkey (The Italian Christmas Donkey) by Leo Monte. Click below to play and further below to browse the playlist.

Jango Jukebox Widget

December 20, 2007 | 5 Comments

I just added a cool new Jango Jukebox widget. Check it out. Unfortunately, by trimming the width to fit my right sidebar I also lose some of the Jango logo. Oh well. Their loss. On the flip side, you gain immediate access to some of my favorite tunes. Enjoy.
