237 Authors Between Two Covers

October 30, 2008 | 4 Comments

The Age of Conversation 2 is officially on sale in hardcover, paperback and ebook. With the subtitle “Why don’t they get it?” AOC2 encapsulates unique perspectives on new marketing and social media including manifestos, secrets, transitions, tactics, ideas, tragedies, business concepts and life stories.

The first AOC book in 2007 had 102 expert authors. As a result of its initial success, the book realized a 132 percent increase in authors for the 2008 edition. The Amazing Shrinking Media Directories

October 28, 2008 | 8 Comments

Just as Balihoo is advertising’s best friend, Cision is PR’s best friend. Cision, the company formerly known as Bacon’s Information, publishes newspaper and magazine directories that contain information for every newspaper and magazine in North America. The directories contain contact information and profiles on editors and reporters, which PR pros often use to help determine media targets for pitching.

I recently ordered my 2009 directories and quickly noticed the smaller physical size when compared to my 2006 editions. By an unscientific eyeball-estimate, the directories have narrowed by about 17 percent, which is clearly reflective of the shrinking media landscape with disappearing newsrooms and folding magazines. UPDATE: However, as Cision SVP and Publisher Ruth McFarland points out, the books have only shed about 100 pages since 2006 because — despite fewer magazines and smaller newspaper editorial staffs — Cision continues to add more reporter details in response to industry requests. (Thanks, Ruth!) By the way, kudos on your social media monitoring news.

WWF

WWF. Is it the World Wildlife Fund or the World Wrestling Federation? Looks like now you can have both in the same logo:

Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the source to give this terrific creation the proper attribution. If you know, please leave a comment.

Here’s the history over the WWF dilemma, according to Wikipedia:

In 2000, the World Wildlife Fund (also WWF), an environmental organization now called the World Wide Fund for Nature, sued the World Wrestling Federation. A British court agreed that Titan Sports had violated a 1994 agreement which had limited the permissible use of the WWF initials overseas, particularly in merchandising.[13] On May 5, 2002, the company quietly changed all references on its website from “WWF” to “WWE”, while switching the URL from WWF.com to WWE.com. The next day, a press release announced the official name change from World Wrestling Federation Entertainment, Inc. to World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc., or WWE, and the change was publicized later that day during a telecast of Monday Night Raw…
