Scour Puts the Social in Search
Three months ago, I wrote a post titled “Social Is The New Search,” which pointed to a Popular Mechanics article that said social networking could kill search.
Or maybe the two can co-exist to create a more powerful tool? Today, a new search engine called Scour launches and it officially puts the social in search.
Scour simultaneously delivers search results from three of the top engines – Google, Yahoo and MSN – while also incorporating user-feedback in the form of voting and comments. The concept isn’t new, but Scour believes it blends algorithmic and human-powered search better than its predecessors, according to Scour CEO Daniel Yomtobian.
In the age of conversation and social networking, Scour hopes its comments and reviews will help build communities of searchers. As one of my favorite features, Scour shows what each result is ranked on Google, Yahoo and MSN. That alone is a huge time saver when needing to compare engine-to-engine results.
According Scour’s PR rep, “Scour aims to equip the user with a more powerful search tool by accomplishing more in less time. Scour doesn’t aim to put any engine out of business, but to simply bring the internet a little bit closer to the searcher using the best of the web.”
